Honoring Veterans and Building Supportive Communities Together

At any given moment, fewer than one percent of Americans are serving on active duty in the U.S. military. That small fraction represents men and women who voluntarily put their lives on hold—and often in harm’s way—to protect our freedoms. As we approach Veterans Day, we pause to honor not only those currently in uniform but also the more than 650 veterans who call our communities home, whose own years of service continue to inspire us.
Our appreciation is more than words—it’s woven into the small, heartfelt gestures that show our respect year-round. At The Springs in La Mesa, California, team members host a warm Veterans Appreciation Brunch, featuring mini frittatas, hash-brown casserole, fresh fruit, deviled eggs, bagels, and more. Residents play a spirited “Guess the Veteran” game, matching old service photos with familiar faces, while stories of service and camaraderie fill the room.

We are also proud to partner with WinnCompanies and Soldier On, supporting initiatives like the Gordon H. Mansfield Veteran Community in Tinton Falls, NJ. This 70-unit permanent supportive housing community provides affordable homes for male and female veterans, helping them transition to civilian life with stability and dignity. Soldier On, a nonprofit organization founded in 1994, is dedicated to ending veteran homelessness by providing safe, affordable housing and supportive services that foster independence, dignity, and hope. WinnCompanies has long been recognized for its veteran-focused housing and community development, as well as its commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive environments where all residents can thrive.

Connected Communities Foundation, together with partners like Winn, helps veterans access:
- Housing stability resources to ensure a safe, affordable place to call home.
- Employment and skills programs to translate military experience into civilian careers.
- Health and wellness support for physical and mental well-being.
These efforts are made possible through generous partners and donors who believe every veteran deserves a stable, thriving community. Your support helps expand veteran-focused programs and create more spaces where their service is honored every day—not just on November 11.
To all who have served—thank you for answering the call.
