Economic Mobility Case Study Brief: Collaborative HUD Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program
In partnership with Compass Working Capital, Urban Edge, Madison Park Development Corporation, Lena Park Development Corporation, Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation and Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation, Connected Communities and WinnResidential launched the nation’s first collaborative HUD multi-family FSS program in 2019 across our Boston portfolio. We’ve been expanding every since. The program creates a powerful tool that allows residents to save increases in their rent based on increased income. To date, over 530 participants have enrolled in the program across forty five communities, regularly participating in credit building workshops, 1-1 financial coaching, and savings planning sessions to support their economic growth. Collectively participants have saved over $2 M in escrow saving accounts towards their financial goals of homeownership, building emergency savings, saving for education for themselves and/or their children, retirement planning, and owning their own business.
