A unique partnership between Snowden House and Sunshine Children’s Rehabilitation is helping residents pursue careers in healthcare. The collaboration offers free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training to Snowden residents, equipping them with the skills needed for success in the field.

The training program spans three weeks, after which participants receive CNA certification. Graduates are guaranteed employment with Sunshine Children’s Rehabilitation, though they are also free to take their certification elsewhere. So far, one resident has successfully completed the program, eight residents are currently enrolled, and 20 additional residents have expressed interest in future classes.

Community Coordinator Kyisha Mackey has been instrumental in connecting residents with the program. Kyisha maintains the applications, explains the program to residents, and submits completed applications directly to her contact at Sunshine Children’s Rehabilitation to secure enrollment in the training classes.

Her team lead, Brianna Surdi, noted:

“Kyisha has done a lot at the site to increase trust between management and residents, including utilizing her services as a Community Coordinator. This partnership and high enrollment rate shows how far that trust has developed, and I can’t wait to see what else Kyisha will accomplish at the site.”

This initiative highlights the importance of partnerships in creating opportunities for residents and directly supports employment, one of Connected Communities’ six key outcome areas. By providing education and a clear path to meaningful work, the program empowers residents to achieve greater independence and stability.

Snowden House, owned by Standard and managed by WinnCompanies, continues to benefit from collaborations that open doors to education, skill development, and employment for its residents. Sunshine Children’s Rehabilitation, a licensed nursing facility specializing in post-acute care for medically complex children, brings both expertise and commitment to making this program a success.
