At Connected Communities, we’ve always believed in the power of resident services to strengthen both people and communities.
Across the affordable housing industry, this impact has long been visible through increased housing stability, stronger community connections, and more effective property operations. What has often been missing is comprehensive data to fully quantify that impact.
Two newly released reports help close that gap.
The first, “The Impact of Resident Services on Property Financial Performance,” conducted by Abt Global and published in collaboration with the Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) and its partners, examines the financial performance of service-enriched properties.
Its findings are clear: properties offering resident services achieve 26% higher net operating income (NOI) than comparable properties without services equating to nearly $1,200 more per unit annually.
Complementing this research, SAHF’s companion report, “The Case for Resident Services,” draws on data from member organizations to highlight the broader outcomes associated with resident services. The report links service coordination to improved housing stability, increased financial resilience, and better health outcomes for residents.
Together, these reports provide both quantitative and qualitative evidence that resident services are a critical component of strong, sustainable affordable housing.
